Tubing the Cuyahoga River

There are not a lot of outdoor activities as relaxing as floating the Cuyahoga River!

From Brust Park in Monroe Falls to Waterworks Park in Cuyahoga Falls is about a 1.8 mile float and takes roughly an hour, depending on river conditions.

All you need is an inner tube and a life jacket for the kids and you're good to go! If you want to get fancy you can bring a floating cooler or speaker but we prefer to travel light! We use a small inflatable paddle boat for the kids (the Intex Explorer 100 for 1 kids, 200 for 2 kids, etc) and big tubes with backrests for us (Intex River Run are our favorite).

Getting there:

You will want to park one car at Waterworks Park at 2025 Munroe Falls Ave, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221

Park it in the back of the park near the river. Make sure to leave your towels in this car and maybe a change of clothes! Alternatively, you can arrange pick up here if you don't want to park a car, or if you don't have enough car seats for both cars. There's also a hiking path all the way back to Brust if you're up for that!

Then take your other car to Brust Park at 154 N Main St, Munroe Falls, OH 44262.

Make sure to bring a waterproof bag for your car keys and another if you plan to bring your phone.

We always bring ropes and carabiner clips to tie our group together (the River Run tube have clips built in). Most of the river is shaded so one application of sunblock beforehand should be good. I've found bringing hat and sunglasses cumbersome. I've brought water bottles and clipped them with a carabiner to the tube but make sure they are sealed tight, you don't want to drink the river water! My husband prefers to bring a paddle or a pole to push away from logs or the shore but it's not necessary.

Most of the river is shallow enough to walk in, and if the water level is low, there may be spots too shallow to float. Make sure to check the river conditions before you go.

Keep an eye out for all kinds of fun wildlife like turtles, cranes, dragonflies and even the occasional river otter!
